National Seminar ‘Global Warming: Reasons, Challenges and Solutions’

Department of Chemistry, G.S.S. College, Belagavi organized a two days’ National Level Seminar on the topic ‘Global warming: Reasons, Challenges and Solutions’ on 15 and 16 March 2019. Renowned Activist on global warming Shri Rajendra Phatarpekar from Mumbai was the Resource Person for the seminar assisted by his co-worker Shri Vivek Dalvi. Prof. S.Y. Prabhu also addressed the participants in one of the sessions on the topic ‘India and Global Warming’. The seminar was spread over two days with six sessions. A total of 113 participants, including PG students of Chemistry and Botany, attended the seminar.

Day one (15/03/2019) began with the Inaugural followed by the keynote address by Shri Rajendra Phatarpekar where he addressed the audience about the burning issues of global warming. Shri Rajendra Phatarpekar was the Chief Guest and Smt. BimbaNadkarni, Vice-chairperson, College Managing Committee was the president for the Inaugural function. The first session was about ‘Global warming and extreme climate events’ where Shri Rajendra Phatarpekar explained extreme changes in climate due to global warming. Sessions II and III were post lunch sessions with session II covering ‘Evolution of life in the context of global warming’ and session III was a video documentary ‘Chasing the Ice’. 

Day two (16/03/2019) started with session IV with the Audio-Visual clips about ‘Extreme climate events around the world’ showing the catastrophe caused by global warming around the world. Session V was addressed by Prof. S.Y. Prabhu on the topic ‘India and Global Warming’ where he spoke about how global warming is affecting India. The last session after lunch was regarding ‘Discussion on solutions in the context of science and philosophy’ where Shri Rajendra Phatarpekar suggested some solutions to encounter global warming. The certificates to the participants were distributed during the valedictory function. Few of the participants expressed their views on the seminar during the valedictory function. Feedback was collected from the participants.

World Women’s Day Celebration-2019

The MR Bhandari and VM Shanbhag School conducted a “Women’s Day Celebration” on the occasion of the International Women’s day on March 8th 2019. The chief guest was Retired Principal of RPD College, Smt. Aruna Naik. The programme was organised by Smt S D Nayak & Smt G H Shinde.

“We have conducted various programmes for parents. The aim of this programme was to increase thinking capacity, benefiting students and parents by providing valuable life lessons.” – From the School Report.

Srujan 19 – College Fest

The science fest Srujan- 19 was celebrated in the college between 26 Feb and 28 Feb 2019. It was inaugurated on 26th Feb 2019 at the auspicious hands of Shri. S. A. Walawalkar Chairman G.S.S College Managing committee, Smt. Bimba Nagdkarni, Vice Chairman G.S.S College, Managing committee, Shri. V. L. Ajgaonkar, Hon. Secretary S.K.E. Society and Principal N.D. Hegde by furling the Srujan Flag and setting off the balloons in the sky in the open air theatre. The members of the management, staff and students were present on this Occasion.

The event was organised with an objective to popularise science among students. Various competitions were held in six different categories wherein the creativity of participants was tested in various fields which include Chitraka (Photography). Short Film, Nirukta shastra( Organic panting), Tantra (Science behind magic), Shabda Samara( Debate) ,Koushal, Shodh and Avishkar.

The competition consist of the organic painting, Best out of waste, Robo racing, photography, stress round etc, which received a tremendous response from the students. The students under the guidance of teachers showcased their talent by exhibiting their projects. The students projects include Bio-energy, solar energy, use of telescope, hydroponics, geology exhibition, Static Aero-modelling etc. All the Departments have kept the exhibition on various themes. The exhibition was open for school students. Around 1200 students from various schools have visited the exhibition.

The valedictory function was held on 28th Feb 2019, on the occasion of National Science Day. Dr. N.D. Hegde welcomed the august gathering. He emphasised on the need of science to create scientific temperament in the youth. Dr. B Venkatesh, Head, National Institute of hydrology, Belagavi was the chief guest. He spoke on the theme of National Science day for the year 2019 “Science for the people and people for the science”. The chief guest addressed the students on the importance of science and scientific spirit in day-to-day life. He also highlighted on the issue of water conservation and utilisation which is the need of the hour. The president of the function Smt.Bimba Nadkarni praised the work of the students in organising such a fest which is helpful in the inculcating scientific spirit among the students. The president of the society Shri. S. C. Shah  was present on the dais. The chief guest and dignitaries gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions. K.L.E’s college of Business Administration became the winner of General championship Trophy of the Inter collegiate Science Fest “ SRUJAN 19”

I thank the management of S.K.E. society for their support. I express my gratitude to our Principals of both the colleges Dr. N.D. Hegde and Prof. P.K.Pitre for their encouragement and support. I thank all the Organising committee members, the General Secretary Mr. Tushar Lad, Ladies Representative Miss. Aditi Dhamnekar and Miss. RPD College sur taal sandhya

Sur-Taal Sandhya at RPD College: SKE Platinum Celebration

Belagavi, 2nd February: The Rani Parvati Devi College of Arts and Commerce, along with the Cultural association and RPD College Alumni Association, organised a musical concert “Sur-tal Sandhya” on the evening of the 2nd of February 2019. This was organised as a part of the year-long Platinum Jubilee Celebration of the South Konkan Education Society. The Chief Guest of the function was Shri. Sharad A. Walawalkar, Chairman of the RPD Managing Committee and the Guest of Honour was the Shri. Vinayak Jadhav, President of the RPD Alumni Association. Shri Walawalkar inaugurated the musical evening by lighting the lamp.

Professionals in the field of classical Indian vocal and instrumental music performed classical ragas, abhangs, bhajans and other genres to a captive audience. Shri Shridhar Kulkarni, Smt Ashwini Adhyapak, Smt Swanandi Kulkarni Sadolikar, Mr. Sarang Kulkarni, Shri Arun Nirgatti,Shri Angath Desai, Miss Anuskha Apte, Shri Akshay Hiremath, Shri Kamalesh Ujjikopp, Shri Shashikant Valvi and Shri Krishna Nersikar performed to the delight of the audience. The concert was open to all and the music lovers of Belagavi were present in large numbers to enjoy an evening of Sur-taal Sandhya. Dr. Smt. Achala Desai, the principal of RPD, Dr. H.B. Kolkar, the chairman of the RPD Cultural Association and Shri. Prasanna B. Joshi, chairman of the RPD Alumni Association were also present. The program was ably compeered by Shri Pavan Kumar and Ms. Madhuri Latkan.
